Dr. Kagwiza Jeanne is currently a senior lecturer and the Acting Principal of of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Rwanda (CMHS, UR). She is a physiotherapist by professional and holds a PhD degree. Her PhD studies focused on holistic rehabilitation which uses biopsycho-social model and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF), as a need to improve comprehensive health care for people living with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) (PLWH) on Antiretroviral Treatment (ART) and with associated disability. In 2011 she won an award from the African Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowship “ADDRF”, for her PhD research. In addition, Dr. Kagwiza holds an advanced diploma in Medical Education and a postgraduate certificate in counselling.

In 2000, Dr. Kagwiza joined the former Kigali Health Institute which later became the College of Medicine and Health Sciences after the establishment of the University of Rwanda. Since then, she has been involved in various undergraduate teaching, research supervision and community attachment, and together with some of her colleagues from physiotherapy department, they initiated community based rehabilitation project in selected districts in Rwanda. The program initiated serves to create awareness about disability and imparts physiotherapy graduates with knowledge and skills about community based rehabilitation. She also served as the Head of Physiotherapy Department, for several years, and initiated new academic programs; physiotherapy bridging program, commenced 2009, advanced diploma in Orthopaedic Technology, commenced 2011 and BSc Occupational Therapy to start soon. Dr. Kagwiza served as a member of the Board of Directors for the former Kigali Health Institute (KHI), and currently, she is a fellow and member of several international bodies, namely, member of Rwandan Association for Physiotherapists, Africa Confederation for Physiotherapists and World Confederation for Physiotherapists. She is also a member of the executive committee of the Africa Federation for Orthopaedics Technicians (FATO) and member of Pan African Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics Schools, and training Institutions. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Africa Organisation for the Development of Centres for People living with disability “OADCPH”, Member of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), Fellow of LEAD Africa/LEAD international Organisation and African Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowships (ADDRF).
