UR-CMHS Dental School receives implant equipment from South Korea partners

The UR-CMHS,School of Dentistry aspire to create a strong center for implant treatment and research. This is to be a state of the art Centre with all required materials and tools to offer implant treatment and research the complications arising from the treatment.

Currently the following services are offered:

  1. Placement of implant
  2. Sinus lift

To strengthen the service delivery, the School of Dentistry received donations from South Korean Organization “Hearts and hands International Organization”.

The service started by delivering implant surgery to 6 patients.

A dental implant is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration, in which materials such as titanium form an intimate bond to the bone. A variable amount of healing time is required  before either the dental prosthetic (a tooth, bridge or denture) is attached to the implant which will hold a dental prosthetic.

In a related development , The School of Dentistry also received guests from Zanzibar State University. The goal for their visit was to get experience from Rwanda on how to establish a School of Dentistry. They are looking forward to establish a program of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in Zanzibar.
