CMHS hosted researchers from Washington University- School of Medicine in St. Louis and the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

On the 7th/08/2018, the College of Medicine and Health Sciences hosted academics and researchers based in the USA. They gave a public lecture at Remera Campus and had time to interact with students and faculty. In her opening remarks the Principal of the College Dr.JeanneKagwiza welcomed the visiting team and encouraged UR staff to take up this opportunity in partnering with Washington University and NIH to jointly work on research projects in the health sector especially on non-communicable diseases.

The team from US included :

Dr. Brad Newsome, based at the Center for Translation Research and Implementation Science (CTRIS), National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH) .His discussion focused on “Partnering with the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) to ‘turn discovery into health’ : Opportunities for global collaboration and funding”

Professor Victor G. Davila-Roman, Professor of Medicine, Anesthesiology and Radiology, talked about “Strategic alliance for CVD and HTN : Rwanda and Washington University in St. Louis”

Dr. Dominic Reeds, Associate Professor of Geriatrics and Nutritional Science, gave a lecture on "Why should Rwanda care about diabetes and how can we learn from it ?"
