RDB and EU senior officials highlighted partnership opportunities to UR Students

The conference was held at Remera Campus and was attended by senior officials of UR, the DVC-IA Dr. Charles Murigande, DVC-SPA Dr.Papias Musafiri Malimba and the DVC-AR Prof.Nelson Ijumba. The Head of the EU Delegation to Rwanda Ambassador Nicola Bellomo and the RDB CEO Ms. Claire Akamanzi were on the panel to highlight a number of partnerships and business opportunities that existed between the EU and Rwanda. The audience was mainly of students from the economics and business departments and diplomats representing Germany,Netherlands,Belgium and other European commission officials affiliated to Rwanda.

In his remarks the head of the EU delegation to Rwanda emphasized that investment is better than aid and appreciated the strides taken by Rwanda to improve the conditions of doing business and investment by creating jobs especially for the youth,value addition and sustainability of business start-ups.

Other areas the EU diplomat emphasized are digital transformation, regional market integration, customs union and the free trade agreement between the two countries and challenges of migration to both the EU and Africa

The RDB CEO highlighted the achievements and strategies that have been put in place to attract investment and reduce dependence on the traditional forex earners of coffee,tea,tourism and mining.

The DVC-IA in his closing remarks thanked the RDB and EU delegation for partnering with UR and welcomed them to continue this partnership.
