Today -on Monday 13 February 2023, the University of Rwanda Vice-Chancellor Dr.Kayihura M. Didas has led a handover ceremony between the Outgoing Principal of the UR-CMHS Assoc. Prof Jeanne KAGWIZA and the incoming one Prof. Abraham Haileamlak Mitike, and also he witnessed the signing of a report that contains College staff and students related statistics, all the work functions and responsibilities. Also present were the UR-DVC-SPIA, UR-DVC-Finance, the Principals (CBE & CAVM) and UR-CMHS Deans, Deputy Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments.

Assoc. Prof. Jeanne KAGWIZA thanked God, UR Management, UR-CMHS Partners, staff who contributed in one way or another to the success of the UR CMHS and highlighted some great achievements realized during her tenure and informed about some great planned activities to be performed in the near future.
The new Principal of the UR-CMHS, Prof. Abraham Haileamlak Mitike has accepted to take over responsibility as the new Principal and he said that he is committed to continue to develop the UR-CMHS starting from where the UR-CMHS is now.
The UR-Vice Chancellor thanked the outgoing Principal over her excellent deeds including her efforts that led the UR-CMHS to the success of a rigorous EAC inspection of Dental and Medical Schools within UR-CMHS that was concluded in September 2022. The VC thanked the new Principal to have accepted to come and take over responsibilities as the new top leader of the UR-CMHS, and assured him about a continued support to the UR-CMHS management for assured realization of its mission of training health Professionals.
The UR-VC asked the UR-CMHS staff to keep working as a team as this was proved to be the overall reason for the UR CMHS to have passed the EAC inspection excellently.

The UR-VC concluded saying that Prof. Abram has come for the new responsibilities while great dreams of the UR-CMHS (including its expansion and restructuring) need a strong visionary leader for their realization. The VC has mentioned that there is hope that the dreams will be realized with the support of Prof Abraham and experience he acquired from different institutions he served before this new appointment.

Who is Prof. Abraham Haileamlak Mitike ?

Professor Abraham Haileamlak Mitike, is a Professor in Pediatrics and completed additional training in pediatric cardiology in Israel at the Wolfson Medical Center (WMC). Professor Abraham has initiated, in cooperation with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, the construction of a new hospital which will include the first pediatric cardiac center in Jimma, Ethiopia. He has been a consultant in the Ministry of Health, Ethiopia, after he had served as the Vice-President of Jimma University, Ethiopia for six years ; as Jimma University, College of Public Health and Medical Sciences (CPHMS) Head of Faculty for five years ; as the University professor for Seven years.
