The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) provides comprehensive training in medical sciences, clinical medicine, and surgery. It integrates preclinical knowledge with extensive clinical rotations in teaching hospitals. The program develops competencies in diagnosis, treatment, and patient-centered care. Graduates qualify for medical licensure and further specialization

Admission requires a solid background in science subjects (such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics), strong academic performance (minimum principal passes of not less than C in each of the above subjects), success in a clinical aptitude assessment (and possibly an interview), eligibility for professional registration, and proficiency in English, alongside meeting general university entry requirements in Rwanda.

A prospective MBBS student is also expected to have a strong scientific foundation and a clear commitment to lifelong, self-directed learning, particularly through case-based and experiential clinical training grounded in evidence-based practice. They should demonstrate professionalism, collegiality, and openness to mentorship, while actively contributing to a respectful, harassment-free learning environment. The ideal candidate shows compassion and accountability in patient care, takes ownership during clinical rotations, and engages in educating patients, peers, and other health professionals within a multidisciplinary team.
