The Master of Medicine (MMed) in Ophthalmology is a four-year, hospital-based specialist training program designed to equip physicians with advanced competencies in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of eye diseases. The program combines structured academic instruction with supervised clinical and surgical training in ophthalmology, including exposure to medical and surgical eye care, emergency eye management, and subspecialty services. It emphasizes skills in cataract surgery, glaucoma management, retinal diseases, and comprehensive vision care, alongside research and quality improvement, preparing graduates to serve as competent ophthalmologists within Rwanda’s health system and beyond.
