The Master of Medicine (MMed) in Psychiatry is a four-year, hospital-based specialist training program designed to prepare physicians for the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. The program combines structured academic instruction with progressive supervised clinical training in inpatient, outpatient, and community mental health services. It emphasizes competencies in psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, emergency psychiatry, child and adult mental health, and psychosocial rehabilitation, alongside research and quality improvement training, preparing graduates to serve as competent psychiatrists within Rwanda’s health system and beyond.
