The Fellowship in Kidney Transplant Surgery is a subspecialty surgical training program designed to develop advanced expertise in renal transplantation and related perioperative care. Delivered over 2 years through hospital-based clinical training, the program combines structured academic instruction with supervised surgical practice in donor and recipient surgery, transplant evaluation, and post-transplant management. It emphasizes competencies in patient selection, organ retrieval and implantation, immunosuppression management, complication prevention, and multidisciplinary transplant care, alongside research and quality improvement training, preparing graduates to contribute to kidney transplant services and surgical leadership within Rwanda’s health system and beyond.
